CALGARY RETAIL ENERGY
Find your best energy plan
Three clear ways to buy electricity and gas, compared using the same household usage and market conditions.
YOUR SHORTLIST
Here are your best options
One best-priced fixed, variable and mixed strategy for your household. Both fuels are included, and separate suppliers are allowed.
Supplier totals exclude common delivery and City charges. Full modeled bills are available in each plan's details.
Full plan comparison · every price, fee and retailer
Electricity
All retailers
Fixed offers use their contractual term. Floating and regulated rates have no fixed term: their annualized costs use the modeled five-year forward outlook. Filters remain independent.
Annual estimates use the same consumption for every retailer and assume current rates continue unchanged when comparing longer terms. Actual bills may differ because rates, fees and market conditions change. Sources & limits.

Compare retailer costs · full bill for context
The comparison emphasizes commodity, transaction/settlement fees and retailer administration. Common delivery and City charges are shown to explain the full modeled bill, but don't drive the supplier ranking. GST is included in the full bill.
Retailer-dependent charges first · full bills alongside
| Retailer / plan | Commodity energy | Retail transaction / adjustments | Retail administration | Supplier-dependent subtotal · compare this | Other costs · delivery, City, GST | Full modeled bill · for context | Pricing evidence / missing data |
|---|
Supplier-dependent subtotals are before GST and include commodity, retailer transaction/settlement charges and retailer administration, even where administration is a fixed daily amount. Delivery and City charges can vary with usage, but are largely the same across providers for the same site and consumption. “Other costs” also includes GST on retailer charges, which therefore changes slightly by plan. The full bill preserves those charges for context; the selected plan's detailed breakdown still shows every original category and incremental usage cost. Unpriced offers cannot win; indexed estimates with unresolved native settlement remain numerically sortable with approximate settlement ranges, but they are not guaranteed cheapest quotes. Future wholesale-price uncertainty is explored with the separate market scenarios.
Each pairing has electricity, natural gas and provider-dependent total rows. Those headline subtotals exclude generally common network and City costs; the smaller full-bill figures include them and GST, calculated independently for each fuel. Complete plans sort before incomplete estimates. No assumed bundle discounts or unknown future renewal prices.

METHODS & FORWARD OUTLOOK
Analysis and projections
Compare against your current contract, vary year-by-year wholesale assumptions, and inspect the modeled market history.
Year-by-year floating-price outlook
Source-based starting values, then your own curve. Change a year and recalculate the providers. All figures are wholesale assumptions—not advertised retail rates.
| Calendar year / evidence | Electricity · $/MWh | AECO gas · $/GJ |

| 20312031 assumption · hold 2029 |
This older saved profile has no market-year curve. The source-based 2026–2031 defaults have been inserted; review them before saving.
2027–29 are indicative 2026 forward quotes; 2030–31 explicitly hold the 2029 price and are not exchange quotations. The late-2026 row uses the balance-of-year quote. For Typical, changing a year sets the monthly flat wholesale level with the observed residential D100 settlement uplift. Historical spike/stress cases retain their original month-to-month price pattern. Gas uses the annual AECO curve to shift the DERS regulated monthly tariff reference. Utilitynet-backed floaters also use one observed historical family-index difference from 13 verified Park/SPOT/Vector months. Neither assumption invents actual future AECO-5A or physical-gas VWAP settlement. Fixed retailer commodity rates do not change.
Rate-confidence audit: Fixed plans with only small tested UFE/line-loss/UFG exposure remain eligible for comparison. These are explicitly labeled with a per-year stress amount—not a guaranteed bound. Floating plans without their native contract settlement index are still visible and numerically comparable, but are not recommended from their proxy wholesale costs alone. Website rate cards can be more current than individual archived UCA retailer-detail pages. The accepted signup rate, optional payment fees and eligibility still need confirmation. Turn off indicative pricing for source-only calculation mode.
FORWARD-LOOKING PLAN SCENARIOS
How costs and market scenarios are calculated
Compare fixed contracts and floating risk over 1, 2, 3 or 5 years for the same household. Adjust wholesale price expectations separately for each calendar year and explore historic calm, stress and summer-spike patterns. Every provider keeps the same use and local delivery territory.
Model scope and important assumptions
Hourly market scenarios and historical context
Electricity wholesale index prices are weighted using the actual published 2025–26 Calgary Residential (D100) finalized hourly class profile, reprojected by month, weekday and hour onto original 2018–25 AESO hourly market prices. This is not a particular customer’s historical metering or settlement.
These scenarios are sensitivities, not probabilities. The Typical column uses flat annual wholesale forward levels with the D100 load-weighting premium from the latest complete hourly source year. Summer 2024 repeats its actual July weighted price in August as a synthetic stress case; 2022 is a separate sustained high-price year.

EVIDENCE & COVERAGE
Sources and data limitations
Retailer directory, original rate cards, quoted fees and known gaps in the model.
Alberta retailer inventory · official UCA directory and our offer coverage
The official UCA detail pages contain residential commodity-rate cards, but often omit administration, processing, deposit and settlement charges. These rate-only offers are not assumed to be complete provider bill quotes. Source-vs-retailer price disagreements are preserved, not overwritten; regulator detail cards can lag the UCA's live Cost Comparison Tool and the retailer's own currently advertised price.
UCA listing establishes an Alberta competitive retailer identity, not confirmed Calgary residential eligibility, contract acceptance, an available rate or a verified customer bill. Only vendors with source-retrieved residential offers are included in the calculator's supplier comparisons; approximate unknown losses and fees are explicitly labeled indicative.
Accuracy, settlement data and missing costs
- Like-for-like annual comparison. Every offer uses the same household electricity and gas consumption. A longer advertised term is shown at a one-year equivalent; the current entered rate and site fee are held constant for comparison. This is not a renewal or price guarantee.
- Floating and regulated prices can change. The calculator uses historical observations and modeled wholesale-price scenarios for variable charges. A plan's actual future electricity or gas commodity price may differ.
- Retailer quotes and modeled costs are different. The displayed listed rate comes from the retailer or regulator. Supplier cost also accounts for published transaction and administration charges and modeled loss/settlement adjustments. Distribution, City fees and GST are shown in the full bill.
- Published high-usage fees are included. Some electricity plans have source-published monthly consumption thresholds and excess-use administration charges. Each offer's fee is applied only to consumption above its own recorded threshold in each billing month, never to an annual average. If you enter only annual kWh, the calculator estimates the twelve months using a seasonal profile, so monthly overage charges are estimates too. Enter your actual monthly kWh to determine the correct tier months. See original plan details for each exact limit and fee. Neon also has separate annual-usage prudential tiers; deposits are not recurring bill charges.
- Distribution class matters. Full bills assume Calgary ENMAX Power residential D100 electricity and ATCO Gas South Low Use (up to 1,200 GJ/year). ATCO Mid Use and higher gas classes require different delivery charges and are not modeled. An optional alternative-technology/appliance gas rate may be available below 40 GJ/year to qualifying sites, but is not automatically assumed. ATCO Gas rate classes. Verify the class shown on your bill.
- Deposits are separate. A small asterisk flags a source-verified prudential requirement; see the specific plan for published amounts and conditions. No asterisk does not establish that a retailer requires no deposit.
- Source gaps remain. Enrollment eligibility, cancellation charges, credits, contract settlement and exact customer-specific billing conditions may not be available from public sources. Some variable-price components are estimated; verify final signup terms before switching.
ENMAX Power publicly lists residential load-settlement profiles, UFE and loss-multiplier reports; access and usable historical coverage are still being verified. The calculator marks missing provider fees or market indexes rather than treating them as zero. Model assumptions remain in config/pricing_rules.json.
